Hello there, my name is Will Hickey and I will be your Student Union President for this year. Firstly I’d like to welcome you all to Limerick IT and I hope you enjoy your time here.
We at the Student Unions provide all students with a whole range of activities, events and facilities, from cheap nights out through to trained counseling sessions. It costs nothing to be a member of the student union; in fact, every single student is automatically a member of the student union and automatically involved in running the business. This is your union and you do with it as you will. If you want to learn Capoeira, if you want to bungee jump, if you want to disco til dawn then come to the student union. The students union is for you and for every student here – because student unions are run by all the students, and what you want is what can happen.
Your student union will be more than parties, advice, food, drink, sport, shopping and support. In addition it will also represent your views to the college administration, to your course directors, and through USI to national government and organizations. If you want the library hours extended, better food prices or whatever the aspirations , your student union will work to present your views to the college committees and decision makers.For most students it is the place for sandwiches, pool, open internet browsing, big name bands and undiscovered stars live on stage. It is for aerobics, accommodation advice, a shoulder to cry on, for keep fit and for sport. It is for debating and dramatics, for quiet philosophizing over a coffee and noisy music, student TV, student radio, student newspapers, community action, mad charity carnivals, fashion shows, grand balls and tacky discos.
The Students Union is there for you and our doors are always open so if you have any queries or problems don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help you in any way we can. Finally I’d like to wish you all the best in your studies through the year.

Stephen Melbourne – Vice President
Welcome to Limerick Institute of Technology (L.I.T for short). For those who are joining us for the first time, a huge welcome to college, I hope you will enjoy your experience of college with us and of you who have been here before, welcome back and congratulations on making it this far!
My name is Stephen Melbourne and I am your Students Union Vice President, I will be working along side Will Hickey (President) for the upcoming academic year. I have been a student at this college for the last 4 years, studying Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering. I also played rugby for the college, which I a gained a lot of experience of working as a team as well as making friends for life. I was proud to lead the college rugby team out as captain in a colours game (annual game during rage week) against University of Limerick in Thomand Park 2010.
I decided to go for the position of Vice President as I feel, I can be of benefit to the students at this college so that each student’s time at LIT is the best it can be. “We will make you, the student’s aware of services and facilities that are available to you” so you will enjoy the upcoming academic and social year. Remember that we are also here for you in every possible way from social, health or educational issues to accommodation, welfare or personal problems. It is my job to assist you in the best way possible so

Remember that the students union is for students, so why not call into the office ‘on the hill’, and let us know who you are, how your getting on, and if you like to make a suggestion. As my door is always open, even if it’s just a rant you’re after, looking for your classroom, or just to say hello. You can also email or give me a call.
This year, the ‘Fight Against Fees’ will be to the forefront of our agenda. It is important for you to realise the impact of impending fees will have on you both personally and academically. I can assure you that I will put my strongest effort in this fight and I look forward to seeing you on board in future protests throughout the year with. I would like to welcome Barry Maher, our Entertainment Officer for the upcoming year. I am looking forward to working with Barry in organizing events for you over the year. We will also pay special attention to Raise and Give Week, as many charities will benefit from the money we will raise.
I would love to hear any suggestion or ideas that you may have to make the Academic year better for you, the students. I know the Students Union teams from the last few years have done an excellent work and now we’re here to try and improve on that, to make LIT student Union the best it can be. It will be a great year despite this ‘current economic climate’! So enjoy it! As people do say “College years really are the best year of your life…”

Barry Maher – Ents Officer
Hello everybody, Hope you enjoyed your summer and hope you are up for an eventful year in LIT.
My name is Barry Maher and i have the pleasure of being your entertainments officer for the next academic year. I’m currently a student in LIT where I’m in my 3rd year of computer networks and systems management. I grew up in a place called Coolderry which is a small village in county Offaly.
I have a love of music and entertainment in general and try to get involved in any local events that may be taking place. I decided to go for the position of entertainments officer as I feel as I can benefit the college with some of my experience in being involved in and organizing events from a young age.
I promise to put great effort into making all events that take place one to remember and I am looking forward to an excellent Raise and Give Week.
